The School Counselor Perspective: Preparing Students to be College and Career Ready within a Comprehensive School Counseling Program

Resumen

Abstract

The preparation of students to be college and career ready is a main goal for many school counselors, teachers, administrators, and parents. In the present-grounded theory study, five school counselors were interviewed to discover their experiences with counseling in a comprehensive school that promotes 21st century learning, with an emphasis on college and career readiness. The findings are explained through the conditional/ consequential matrix, and reveal that counselors have diverse views on their own preparation and perceptions of the school counselor role, common core, data-driven assessments, as well as career and technical education, which are all interdependent with the comprehensive school counseling model.
